W

elcome to the summer edition of City Security magazine, which comes at a pivotal time for the UK, as with many other nations, we face a general election, set against a backdrop of continued turbulence around the world.

Those working in security are responsible for keeping us safe during these challenging times, and cyber security and technology play a key part in that. In response, in this edition we examine both security technology and cybersecurity – and how they converge.

Cyber attacks continue to be a major contributor to the threats that organisations and individuals face. To understand this impact, we begin with an overview of the Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2024 , which helps shape the UK's cyber resilience, aligning with the National Cyber Strategy. Complementing this, we explore how safeguarding satellite technology plays a key role in the security of the modern urban landscape. Additionally, the City of London Police provides crucial insights on the most likely cyber attacks, preventative measures, and their proactive strategies.

Retail crime is on the increase with 16.7m incidents a year. We explore how intelligence and technology can help. The hot topic of the impact of AI in the security market, particularly regarding CCTV advancements, is also discussed. We highlight cutting-edge physical security technologies, including drone surveillance, big data dashboards, and biometric innovations.

Lastly, we honour the impactful life and legacy of Baroness Ruth Henig CBE JP DL. Her contributions to the security sector were immense, and she will be deeply missed by us all.

We hope you find this edition of City Security Magazine both informative and inspiring. We look forward to connecting with you at one of the many security events over the summer.

Footnote: Figen Murray OBE recently completed her epic walk from Manchester to London, meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the day he announced the general election. Both he and the leader of the opposition, Keir Starmer, promised to enact Martyn’s Law quickly. Figen was supported every step of the way by colleagues from the security sector. Representatives from London were proud to join her on the last leg from Marble Arch to Downing Street.
