PARTNERSHIPUPDATE - PARTNERSHIPUPDATE UPDATE

ommunity Resilience can be defined as encouraging and developing communities where people live and work to withstand, adapt to and recover from challenging incidents. London, Manchester, Birmingham, and other cities have been exposed to many such challenges, be they terrorist attacks, natural disasters, or extremes of weather.

In 2017, the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP) arranged for trauma packs to be placed in a number of livery halls, with the funding provided by the WCoSP Charitable Trust. Those packs had a lifespan of five years. In early 2022, the Chair of the Charitable Trust, Claire Palmer, confirmed that the Trust would support and fund the review of these packs and to update or replace them as necessary.

As a consequence, Don Randall MBE, on behalf of WCOSP, asked me to carry out a First Aid review at Livery Halls and Worshipful Companies within the City of London. Following this, the WCoSP Charitable Trust funded the replacement and provision of an Enhanced Medical Kit for these venues.

This endeavour created a momentum that has brought together members of staff

from the

Worshipful Companies, Halls and Liveries from all over London, by providing a first aid workshop for the staff. This training in the use of the new medical equipment has enhanced the capabilities of these venues in line with the Protect Duty programme campaigned for by Figen Murray OBE.

Having trained Figen and some of the bereaved families of the Manchester arena attack, I asked for her view of this project: “Societal and community resilience are important as they enable us to look out for each other. A resilient community will cope much better in times of crisis, be that through terrorism, floods, fires, and other unprecedented events. Empowering people with skills such as bleed control and first aid training, increased security awareness around the threat of terror or what to do during a flood or in a fire can literally make the difference between life or death. A knowledgeable community is a resilient community who can support each other when it really matters!"

SSC continues to support crime prevention across the UK. There are three upcoming events where you can find out more about the initiative:

• 27-28 September at the International Security Expo at Olympia, Stand A80: Colleagues will be available on the joint City of London Crime Prevention Association, City Security magazine and CSSC stand. Come and learn more about all three.

• 30 September, North East & Yorkshire CSSC Regional Event: The Chambers, Leeds: Both existing and prospective CSSC members are invited to this event. Hear from representatives from the Counter Terrorism Police and receive training that helps protect both your organisation and your staff. The CSSC would like to thank Crisp Thinking for kindly supporting this event.

• 16th November, 2022: CSSC Annual Charity Dinner: The dinner will be held in the beautiful 'Old Library' of the Guildhall, City of London. The menu and prices of individual seats, tables of ten, or half tables will be announced soon. Find out more from: admin@thecssc.com

Update from Eastern CSSC: Chair Guy Mathias FSyI, F.ISR

Eastern CSSC continues to hold and promote the National CSSC model covering the six East Anglian counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

This project, supported by Don Randall MBE, Claire Palmer, Stephen Emmins and David Ward from WCoSP and its Charitable Trust will help build the community resilience and develop working practices of these great venues ahead of time. Providing first aid training supports a resilient community capable of responding in times of crisis.

The Senior Management Board (SMB) maintains its pivotal role for our 563 industry sector leads, associates and our members. It provides a body of highly experienced industry sector and government agency representatives and it is my pleasure and privilege to be Chair. I would also like to note the support I receive from my Deputy Chair, Ross McDermott. We work closely with our local Protect and Prepare CTSA Policing colleagues and business crime unit who assist us in linking to government and public body agencies.

Our Regional Security Forum was held in July at the University of Cambridge. We had some terrific speakers, with a keynote address from Jane Gyford, Deputy Chief Constable of Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

We remain very grateful to the support provided by Dardan Security to Eastern CSSC.
