Terrorists move to smaller platforms
Terrorist and violent extremist use of the internet is growing increasingly complex. It is a common misconception that large-scale social media is the primary target for online terrorist activity, including propaganda dissemination campaigns. Terrorist and violent extremist actors have in recent years been forced to shift
much of their online activity to smaller platforms – many of which most people have probably never heard of – and to hosting and operating their own websites in order to recruit, radicalise, and share propaganda material.
As terrorists move to smaller platforms, it becomes increasingly difficult to identify and
