CREW ACTIONS During a decompression or emergency descent.

Cabin Crew 1. Don O2 Mask 2. Secure Yourself 3. Access the situation

In the cabin -- Put on a drop-down mask, sit down out

of the aisle and either fasten seat belt or wedge yourself between passengers. On the flight deck, don 02 mask immediately and follow approved procedures for communication and descent.

Flight Deck Crew 1. Don O2 Mask 2. Emergency Descent 3. Communicate

During an emergency descent Crew must remain on oxygen and strapped in. In the cabin, ensure that passengers:

1. Have an oxygen mask fitted 2. Remain seated with seat belts fastened 3. You can achieve this by shouting commands from your secure position

Actions to be taken when the Aircraft has descended to a safe altitude. When the aircraft has leveled off, communication will take place between the Flight Deck and the Cabin.

This is the signal to Cabin Crew that they may move around the cabin and should transfer to a portable oxygen set if necessary.

The Pilot in Command will require information from the cabin regarding any damage to the aircraft and any passengers or crew injured or missing.

The prompt arrival of the crew member nearest the Flight Deck ensures that immediate assistance is available to the Flight Crew, for example in the event of Pilot Incapacitation.

After this has been done, the pilots need to be updated on any new developments which may have occurred involving passengers, crew or the aircraft itself.

Checking Passengers and Cabin Secure Once it is safe, cabin crew will move through the cabin assisting passengers, especially those who may have failed to don their oxygen mask.

Cabin Crew - Priorities for Assisting Passengers;

Toilets - check to ensure no-one is unconscious behind closed doors. If a passenger is in a toilet, then move them to the nearest seat available.

1. Unconscious Passengers - fit masks and check breathing 2. First Aid - administer as necessary. Prioritize the injured and treat the most serious first 3. Prevent Panic - reassure passengers by all means possible 4. Seatbelts - check belts are fastened and strictly enforce “No Smoking” 5. Prepare the cabin for landing

After the drop down oxygen supply has been exhausted or has been switched off by the Flight Crew, the Cabin Crew should ask all passengers to remove their masks. Passengers who still require oxygen must be placed on therapeutic (portable) oxygen by the Cabin Crew.
