WHY I SERVE F

orty-three individuals volunteer their time and talents as members of one of the five boards of directors overseeing Landis Communities and its affiliates. This column features a member of one of the boards and lists those who serve with the highlighted individual.

Tell me a little about yourself…

I grew up in Ohio. After college I spent a year in Germany as part of the Inter-Menno youth exchange program for young adults. I lived with a family who owned a grain farm and had a bakery, where I worked. Since moving to Pennsylvania, I have served as VP of Lending for Mennonite Financial/Everence, Director of Development and Co-CEO at Assets and am currently Director of Administrative Services for the City of Lancaster. I live in Lancaster with my husband, Max, and we are active members of Blossom Hill Mennonite Church.

When did you first hear of Landis Homes/ Landis Communities?

I first heard of Landis Homes through people at church. When my mom visited from Ohio, she started looking at potential communities where she could move. Landis Homes felt welcoming, inclusive and comfortable – this made an impression on me. Now, my mom not only lives at Landis Homes but has been a part of the Pastoral Services team.

What led you to become a Landis Communities Board member?

When Steeple View Lofts opened, I noticed how Landis Communities was branching out to serve a broader audience. The idea of providing more affordable options for older adults appealed to me, particularly because of my work with Assets. When Allon Lefever shared more about projects like Landis Place on King and future expansion, I was enthusiastic about joining the board. Once involved, I was impressed by the forward-thinking nature of the group. This group is not looking to maintain the status quo! I am learning a lot!

Cultivating Life, Together

Tina Campbell is a member of the Landis Communities Board of Directors.

How has your role with Landis Communities affected your life?

I connect to the organization’s guiding values. I now think more about affordable housing, the need for benevolent care and how we can give back to those who have given so much to the community. I’m grateful to be involved.

What goals do you have for the organization?

I hope we will continue to expand our work and create more options for future generations. From the proposed low income housing tax credit project in Reading to 55+ rentals and home and community based services, I’m glad we can continue to serve a more diverse population.

Why do you serve on the Board of Landis Communities?

For me it is tied to the amazing experience my mom has had at Landis Homes. The welcoming environment and generosity toward others is evident across Landis Communities. This is a way I can give back.
