After decades of searching, Sandy and Harvey Asher had given up hope of finding their dream location to live – a walkable, historic, artistic, affordable city – until a trip brought Sandy to Lancaster City, and right away, she thought, “This is it. This is the place we’re going to live.”

With markets, restaurants, museums, and entertainment a short walk away, it’s the ideal location for older adults desiring active living.
DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre. She discovered LPK during a day-trip to Lancaster and fell in love with the vibrancy of the city.
Like Sandy and Harvey, other Landis Place residents are invested in the arts. The Ashers’ grandson, Rafael, played the piano in the music room for residents. They insisted he return soon for another concert.
Thousands have discovered Landis Communities partners to help meet their needs. Friends Life Care offers personalized support to seniors aging independently. Their involvement with Lancaster Downtowners also provides extra help; the Downtowners’ program Just One Call is a valuable resource for seniors.
The creative energy of the city is especially inspiring to Sandy, as she is a published writer, who authored the children’s book “Too Many Frogs.” She also writes plays, poetry, articles, and has taught a writing workshop called “Exploring the Stories of Your Life” all over the country, including at Landis Place on King.
In fact, it was a writing-related trip that brought Sandy to the area. She was invited to York to adapt “Little Women” for

Landis Place on King care navigator Shay Brown is also helping the Ashers experience joy in their new home. “Shay is easy to talk to,” Sandy explains. “She inspired me to put together a short-term, emergency plan of care. I wouldn’t have done it otherwise.”
Sandy says Lancaster is the home they dreamed of all their lives. “We finally found it,” she says. “And it just keeps getting better.”
