Since moving to Steeple View Lofts, the Hunters have had the opportunity to take full advantage of everything Lancaster City has to offer – especially all of the plentiful establishments that are within walking distance.
“It’s great for walking for exercise,” Rob says. “We enjoy the interactions we have with our fellow residents, neighbors and people downtown. If you’re out around the same time every day, you start to recognize each other.”
Rob and Shirley enjoy walks to Fulton Teatre and Splits and Giggles, a nearby ice cream shop. Tey appreciate that the pharmacy, post office, and police station are all within walking distance too.
Tey also love to stroll to the square and sit at the outside tables of their favorite eateries. “We can be back before dark and don’t have to worry about driving,” Shirley said.
Rob visits Central Market twice a week to get fresh produce. “We like the people there,” he said. “We’ve made connections with the vendors.”
In addition to the location and walkability of Steeple View Lofts, Rob and Shirley are grateful for the community they have found. “We’re on a first name basis with almost everyone in the building,” Shirley shared. “We wanted community. Tat’s why we picked a 55+ living place. We didn’t have nearby affiliations with people like we do here. We know that there’s always someone we can depend on.”
“Tere’s a sense of community in apartment living,” Shirley said. “Before Steeple View Lofts, we lived in a neighborhood and everyone was friendly, helped with snow removal, waved… but here, it’s very different. Before, I couldn’t just walk over to a neighbor and say, ‘Want to go get a coffee?’ Sometimes, someone will put out an email that says, ‘Join us on the deck at 5!’”
Tere are other frequent social events, such as a fall fest, a Christmas brunch, and monthly gatherings, organized by a committee of residents.
This is the kind of spontaneity and friendship that the Hunters were thankful to find. “We are in an environment that nurtures us,” Shirley said. “That’s how this is different from other apartment buildings.”
Teir daughter lives in Brooklyn and their son is in Manhattan. Tey both live in apartments and understand the adjustment their parents went through, as well as all the benefits they now have. Rob and Shirley’s children visit frequently and stay with them at Steeple View Lofts. Te Hunters especially love when they get to visit with their grandchildren and experience the city together.
Rob and Shirley feel connected to the larger body of Landis Communities. “If we had moved into any other apartment building, we would not have all the amenities available to us that we do at Steeple View, such as Resident’s Council, meals and access to Landis at Home,” Shirley said.
Rob agreed. “Tey’re professional and willing to listen,” he said. “All of the core values of Landis Communities really hit home.”
Te Hunters are at home in their thriving community and flourishing in their nurturing environment. “We laugh a lot here,” Rob said, confirming that their home at Steeple View Lofts is indeed good for their souls.
