Tell me a little about yourself…I grew up on a farm near Danville, PA. My parents were teachers. I met my wife, Dot, while we were in elementary school. We were married, while attending Penn State, and we have two grown daughters. I serve professionally as Vice President of Organization Services for Everence. I enjoy traveling, playing golf, and reading.

When did you first hear of Landis Homes and Landis Communities? I first heard of Landis Homes as a young adult. People in my church in Central PA had family members who lived there. In 1999, when I began working at what was then Mennonite Foundation and Mennonite Mutual Aid (MMA), now Everence, I became more acquainted with the organization. In 2003, I started serving as the MMA Investment Advisor for Landis Homes – a role that gave me greater insight to the values of the organization and the way the team cares for people.

When did you realize you wanted to be a part of the organization? When the Landis Homes Board began exploring the possibility of creating Landis Communities, I was invited to be part of an appreciative inquiry (a model to engage stakeholders

in helping to generate new ideas and structure for the future.) Te possibility of serving a broader spectrum of seniors in the greater community caught my imagination.

What was the first thing you noticed when you joined the Landis Communities Board?

It was clear that the board members had a very significant vision for the future. I was excited to be part of it and believed I could learn as well as contribute through my association with the board.

How has your role with Landis Communities affected your life? I am much more aware of the scope of aging services and the needs of seniors. I appreciate that Landis is going beyond the traditional CCRC campus to offer Home and Community Based Services through Landis HCBS and a range of living options through Landis Quality Living.

What goals or dreams do you have for the organization? My goal is for Landis Communities to not only sustain but to keep growing and to thrive. Te aging services sector is entering a time when affiliations are becoming part of the planning for long-term sustainability and I want to help us be ready if that day comes.

Why do you serve at Landis Communities?

I serve because this is a strong organization with humble and committed leaders who take the mission and guiding values seriously. I see wonderful team members who care for residents and clients, and generous donors and volunteers who support the work. It is important to me to serve and share with the community and to spread God’s love. Serving through Landis Communities enables me to accomplish this and contribute in a way that brings creative solutions and opportunities to an aging society.
