Polypipe Building Services expands technical training to support professional competency drive
Polypipe Building Services, the leading UK manufacturer of drainage and water supply systems, has expanded its customer support offering to include training at its Aylesford site, tailored to specific customer roles, requirements, and the systems they use or specify.
Aimed at public health or mechanical engineers, main contractors, and M&E installers - the training offers deeper insight into PBS commercial drainage and water supply systems and the correct design and installation methods they require. All of which helps customers tackle skilled labour shortages and ensure high standards across construction projects.
Graham Hicks, Project Development Manager at PBS said: “Helping professionals understand our systems supports their development and the need to demonstrate competence under the Building Safety Act. With competency required in the specification and installation of systems used in tall buildings, our training provision supports our customers in meeting high standards - from early stages through to installation and testing.”
Provided as technical presentations or following CIBSE accredited CIBSE CPDs, the expert team at Polypipe Building Services (PBS) present training on the products and their applications, as well as providing an informative tour of the PBS factory at Aylesford to give attendees a detailed insight into the manufacturing process.
Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation also showcase their Blue/Green offering with a technical presentation and tour of the Blue/ Green roof which has been installed at the Aylesford Office.
Practical elements of the training session include a comprehensive demonstration using a specially designed ‘Tower’ rig - which houses working systems using PBS products. A PBS ‘Tower’ demonstration is one of the few opportunities in the country for engineers and specifiers to see water movement through transparent plastic pipes. The

‘Tower’ demonstrates good and bad practices together with the negative effects of poor installation. This unique display is also able to show the effects of positive and negative pressures within a drainage system.
The ‘Tower’ demonstration is then followed by a hands-on session which shows both correct and incorrect installation methods and demonstrates techniques such as butt, socket, and electrofusion welding.
Graham continued: “We’re able to tailor our in-house training to suit project and team requirements, and if a CIBSE accredited presentation is delivered, attendees will also receive a CPD certificate from us following their visit, to evidence their

A training event for young engineers (including SoPHE YEN) has been organised in collaboration with CIBSE for this September, which will showcase commercial drainage and water supply systems, and help young engineers gain valuable practical experience while building towards CPD requirements.
