team could focus on providing an outstanding experience to their guests rather than worry about what was happening with the wastewater treatment system.

After an in-depth analysis, GRAF proposed an 862-person oneAdvanced wastewater treatment system - the largest oneAdvanced system installed in Europe to date.

Once the solution was identified, the plan was to first decommission the old system and ensure it was safely disconnected from the sewer network. Next, the team would install the wastewater tanks, which comprised seven 38,000 litre tanks, one 6,500 litre tank, and one 42,000 litre tank.

Then, it was to connect the necessary pipes, hoses and fittings needed to operate the SBR (Sequence Beach Reactor) technology which is widely recognised as being the most efficient way of treating the wastewater generated by the hotel, golf course, driving range, clubhouse and restaurants.

Finally, GRAF equipped the new system with KLARO WebMonitor for real-time remote monitoring and telemetry. Key supporting elements, including packaged sand filters, chemical dosing to reduce phosphorus levels, and a dedicated control building to house and protect the components, were also installed.

Philip Johnston, GRAF’s commercial wastewater manager in Ireland and the UK, who has over 20 years of experience, said: “Dundrum House Hotel faced significant challenges with their existing system as it was no longer compliant with their discharge licence and was holding back the growth of their facility. We were able to design a solution that completely solved our customer’s problem.

“Reducing pollution of rivers and groundwater is critical, not just here in Ireland but across the United Kingdom. People depend on a constant supply of fresh water, and it deserves far more attention than it currently gets. It was a pleasure to work with a team that took their environmental impact so seriously.”
