Public Services students embarked on a ‘Get Ross to Tokyo’ fundraising campaign in 2017, raising money for local para-weightlifter Ross Austin.
Ross, from Fremington, was disabled while serving in Afghanistan in 2008. He is hoping to go to the Commonwealth Games and the British Championships, and began his four-year training cycle for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in January 2018. Ross came to speak to Public Services students who were inspired to fundraise for him as part of their Community Rangers unit. The students have planned a number of fundraising events over the next four years, and were delighted to present the fi rst instalment of their efforts - £1,170.90 – in March 2018.
