Welcome to our record- breaking A-level department here at Petroc’s North Devon Campus.
Last year, our A-level sixth form, the largest in Northern Devon, achieved an overall pass rate of over 99% for the sixth consecutive year and many of our learners proudly went on to top universities including Oxford, Cambridge, as well as apprenticeships or employment with world- class businesses.
Throughout the year, our learners take part in a wide variety of exciting educational trips, both in the UK and abroad. Recently, our Classics students went to Rome, Law students went to Bristol Crown Court and our Geography, Environmental Science and Economics learners spent fi ve days in Iceland.
We pride ourselves in offering a truly supportive environment within our community. The enrichment opportunities we offer are refl ected in the incredible career pathways our learners are now progressing onto. From medicine to veterinary science and politics to law, our learners are truly amazing.
Academic Academy
This is an opportunity for students who achieve a minimum of eight 7s (including at least three 8s or 9s) at GCSE and who aspire to aim high in their university and career choices. Through the Academic Academy you will experience being in a specialist tutor group with other like-minded young people. You will be provided with group and one-to-one tutorials which will include comprehensive guidance on the UCAS application process to competitive courses at top universities, to enable you to submit a polished application and excel at interview. You will also have an additional two hours of enrichment per week, designed to stretch and challenge you beyond your subjects.
Medics and Vet Academy
The Vets & Medics Academy is designed to give you a head start when applying to university. The academy comprises of Vets & Medics Tutorial with a professional tutor as well as a programme of enrichment run by an academic member of staff for two hours per week. The structure is based on problem-solving learning, used by many UK medical schools and will enable students to develop an appreciation of what a degree and career in these fi elds entails. In the second year students have the opportunity to be part of a ground-breaking and prestigious 10-week shadowing scheme at Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust. Vets & Medics Academy students must achieve a minimum of eight 7s (including at least three 8 or 9s). You must also be enrolled on A-level Chemistry and at least one other Science or Maths subject.
