great experiences staying in rental accommodation, from holiday cottages to chalets and villas, but lacked the knowledge, experience and resources to make an investment. I wanted to create a smarter way for them to invest in a property that could potentially pay for a holiday or two every year. The market was already there, I just took a different view on how to satisfy the demand.
IBS Journal: What has been your smartest move?
AM: Our partnership with Sykes Cottages: they take care of all of our bookings so we can focus on what we do best, finding our customers
the top properties for them to invest in. Sykes Cottages has decades of experience in holiday lettings and is one of the largest independent lettings agencies in the UK. They ensure our properties get the right level of bookings and that any customers staying there are professionally looked after.
IBS Journal: What was your biggest challenge/setback?
AM: Brexit caused some initial shocks to the system but by focusing on UK investors we’ve been able to target a really engaged demographic. We’re currently seeing evidence of a mini-boom in UK tourism, in part
due to the exchange rate and more holidaymakers remaining in the UK and our aim is to help our customers benefit from this positive trend.
IBS Journal: Where do you want to be in five years?
AM: Our current focus is on the UK market but I believe this can be a truly global business. Our ambition is to fund hundreds of properties over the next couple of years and to expand geographically. We’re really bullish about the impact of technology on this huge market and want to make it more accessible to investors.
