Former Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) boss Natalie Ceeney has been named as Chair of UK FinTech association, Innovate Finance. She replaces Alastair Lukies, who co-founded payments firm Monitise in 2003.

While at the FOS, Ceeney dealt with the challenges of the PPI mis- selling scandal as the organisation handled an unprecedented volume of complaints, with many of them upheld. She joins Innovate Finance at a particularly challenging time

for the UK FinTech sector. London and Singapore remain the top hubs to establish and grow a FinTech startup, although various other cities are hot on their heels, according to recent Innovate Finance, SWIFT Innotribe and Deloitte research. This updated 20 of the hubs profiled in September 2016 and introduced an additional 24, all members of the Global FinTech Hub Federation (GFHF).

Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation Mark Boleat, said: “The UK has long been a leader when it comes to FinTech and so it’s great to see our position is unchanged. It does, however,

highlight the prominence of other cities vying for a slice of the pie. With competition rising, it’s important for the UK to continue championing innovation whilst maintaining the right degree of regulation to see our FinTechs thrive. We are committed to strengthening FinTech in the UK and are hopeful we can continue to lead in this sector.”

Citi has announced the appointment of Gulru Atak to head up its innovation lab in Dublin, which opened in 2009, and also the innovation programme for the FI’s Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS) business.

Atak says: “I’m extremely excited about taking on this new role and working with an incredibly talented team on shaping the innovation agenda for the business. Through the projects we are working on in the lab, we are able to lead and support our clients with new innovative solutions for their businesses, which is becoming more important as we look to the future.”

She was previously TTS Head for Turkey and Non-Presence Countries in Central Asia and the Caucasus in April 2014. Atak joined Citi Turkey in 2002. After completing different assignments within Internal Audit and Finance, she moved to Citi Transaction Services in 2006 and assumed various responsibilities in product and business management.
