CHAIRMAN’S COLUMN By Michael Marion, CVE

With Charles A. McElravy Award winner (and Martini Queen) Robyn Williams, CVE, at the helm, I’m sure the Foundation will con- tinue to provide scholarships for members to help shape our future. Please give a lot and give often. We are all in a business where we are not making widgets--we are making a good time. In the coming year, IAVM will keep striving to give our members the tools to succeed in this unique business. The successes of VMS, AVSS, GuestX, SES, as well as our Region Confer- ences, show the need for continuing education and social engagement within our industry. Under the leadership of our President and CEO, Brad Mayne, CVE, we will look for ways to sustain and improve these excellent programs. Your board committees, led by Executive Committee members,

TORONTO WAS A FANTASTIC CLINK-CLINK CONFERENCE.

The interaction among the mem- bers is what makes it work. The hallway conversations, the social gath- erings, and other activities are what makes our conference an annual don’t miss. What other meeting can you go to and be surrounded by professionals in our business who aren’t your co-workers? well. Please make sure you respond to the feedback e-mail. As we continue down the road of Good Governance, Tammy Koolbeck, CVE (Queen of Iowa), and her com- mittee will be available to help recommend any changes that may be needed. The Audit Committee, led by Mr. Comic-Con, Rip Rippetoe, CVE, will further Tammy’s good work to ensure we continue to have clean audits. Doug was an outstanding chair, and we’re lucky to have his ongoing leadership. There’s plenty for the EC members to do to keep us out of our CEO’s hair. We certainly want to provide Brad with clear expectations, as outlined in our Governance Policies, as well as serve as a voice of the membership. The EC will keep the board updated at our regular board meetings. We love those conference calls. If you have a sugges- tion to help improve our association, please contact a board member. I have high hopes for our new Diversity and Inclusive Leadership Committee, led by Julia Slocombe and Robyn Williams. The Diversity in Leadership reception in Toronto was a big success -- we raised over $40,000! It is important that we get more minorities in the pipeline to be our future leaders. We can talk a good line, but we need to put concrete actions in place. Each of us should seek out folks in our work- place and encourage them to get involved. A special thanks goes out to long-time IAVM supporter and friend,

Rex Post, for organizing a Mississippi State University Cowbell crew of Todd Hunt, Beth Wade, Abby Hunt, and Joe DeGeorge, who rang in the passing of the gavel. An unforgettable moment. Hail State!
