God Catches a Camper Catch the Vision
Last summer Ronnie, one of our teen campers, wasn’t happy with camp rules and wanted to go home. His appeal to his mom was fruitless (thank God!), but he continued to have a poor attitude. His girlfriend and he were even plotting how to walk back to Saskatoon! Tey ended up staying with us on the third day, but Ronnie seemed determined not to enjoy himself. Around the end of the fourth day of teen camp, Ronnie started
letting stubbornness go and began enjoying the activities and new friends he made. By the end of the sixth and final day he remarked how valuable his week had been and voiced his desire to know God more and get involved in regular church meetings. Tis winter I had coffee with Michael, the youth leader from
Ronnie’s church. When I asked Michael how Ronnie was doing, he immediately got excited. As it turns out, the Holy Spirit hasn’t let him go. Ronnie continues to attend their meetings regularly and has had some important “aha” moments. As Michael gave him a ride one night, Ronnie related how he had been reading his Bi- ble. He then remarked: “So you know that all this stuff about Jesus actually happened, right? Like the stuff in the Bible is true.”

FellowshipForward.org Ronnie’s revelation is so simple and humbling, especially
considering he comes from a home where Jesus was only spoken as a curse word and family support was lacking. What an honor to realize that it wasn’t our camp or his youth leader that was respon- sible for his salvation, but rather God himself. I’m reminded how Paul assured the Philippian believers: “He
who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:6 NIV). God will see the work through in Ronnie’s life. God chooses to involve us as he sees fit. We’re looking forward to having Ronnie back at teen camp this summer and helping him along in his journey of surrendering to Jesus as his Savior.
