Fellowship Focus Meets Harvest Radio
Since the FEBC Convention Project is to help Har- vest Radio (HR)] transition to FM broadcasting, we wanted to know more about this station in Northeast Brazil. FF: What kind of programming does Harvest Radio (HR) use to promote spiritual change and growth?
HR: Each weekday we air the Portuguese versions of “Trough the Bible” with J. Vernon Mcgee and “Insight for Living” with Chuck Swindoll. We air several productions by Transworld Radio which include a four-minute segment on Bible doctrine and a 15-minute Bible question and answer program. “Our Daily Bread” airs along with some other devotionals including one specifically for couples. On a weekly basis we broadcast messages from a Baptist church in Fortaleza as well as trans- mit live the Sunday evening service of the local Avant Ministries related church. “Unshackled” in Portuguese is on three times a week.
FF: How many people will the station potentially reach with the new FM transmitter?
HR: Te signal will reach 500,000 people. FF: I’ve heard that at least one church was begun as a direct result of Harvest Radio. Can you tell us about that?
HR: Since 2004 various listeners from the town of Guaraciaba have called in to the station. Mission- aries James and Molly Goossen noted this con- centration of interested listeners and wondered
if Guaraciaba might be a good place to start a church. Repre- senting Harvest Radio, James and Molly took door-to-door surveys. Teir surveys confirmed that was a cluster of listeners in Guaraciaba and that there was not a church in that town. Tis was motivation enough for James and Molly to team up with some national believers and work on face-to-face evangelism. Today they have a small but vibrant church meeting regularly in their carport. Here at the studio, when we hear some of these believers call
in to request songs, it is a joy to think of how we are providing daily input into their spiritual lives.
FF: Tell us about one or two people who have been affected by the station’s programs.
HR: Tree weeks ago we aired the testimony of a former Catholic priest who explained how he came to really understand salvation in Jesus Christ. Soon we had a request to air it again. A few days aſter this testimony was aired, we saw on Facebook that the father-in-law of one of our announcers had rededicated his life to the Lord as a result of that testimony. In March one of the prominent business men (an unbeliev-
er) of our town told us that he is listening to Harvest Radio. Sometimes we wonder if people say that to “win us over” for a business deal or if they really are listening. In this case he de- scribed his routine of starting the day with exercise and listening to Harvest Radio. He went on to describe the programs that he usually listens to. Tat confirmed to us that he truly is listening. May the Holy Spirit use the words he hears to change his heart.
FF: Tank you. Tat gives us a better picture of the value of your ministry.
Convention Project Our Fellowship is partnering with Harvest Radio and
Avant Ministries to provide $22,000 for a new FM antenna and the link to transmit the audio from the studio to the new transmitter/antenna site. Harvest Radio anticipates that the stronger signal and better quality of FM radio will dramatically in- crease its listenership. Will you join us to fund this project? You can give through
your local church, give online at
fellowshipforward.org, or send your tax-deductible giſt to FEBC Canada or FEBC USA. Indicate that your giſt is for “Convention Project.”
