immediately understood the issues, and they were so important to me, enabling me to take the risk to develop our robust secure platform. I can’t thank them enough.

In my case understanding quality was critical, looking at a leaner way to work and then the application of IT. Our CTO, Shane Barron, has been with me from the start. I’m still not what you’d call a ‘techie’, and we are so lucky to have his expertise and help to secure Irish-built open-source software with a great team of young energetic technologists.

How did your experience help?

Without the career path I took, I never would have started my own training company. My CV is pretty linear in that I’ve always been involved in managing people and teams, training them, and motivating them. There is plenty of contract work in training, but the key is to have the tools, tech and skills and experience to ensure you’re better than everyone else.

What advice would you give an L&D practitioner who is thinking of starting their own company?

Build on your strengths, adding extra skills in a specific area. An extra course in a related field could give you the edge you need to really make a difference and enhance your reputation. Always focus on quality, this should always be your USP. The evaluation of tender documentation weights up to 40% for methodology, therefore, bringing real time data to the table can give you the edge over competitors.

What are your future goals?

We recently won a significant contract, building our technology platform, e-learning and data analytics into the solutions. This contract has enabled us to grow the business, announcing four new jobs this September. We recently started a pilot with LASTNG (Local Authority Services National Training Group), which is the body responsible for support for fire, water and roads authorities QQI qualifications. My goal is to continue to grow and apply new tech solutions to streamline skills-based training.

What are your career highlights to date?

Definitely winning the Best Consultancy Award at the IITD National Training Awards earlier this year along with our partner client Impact Training. It was a wonderful validation of our work and to share the platform with other industry leaders was an honour.

What inspirational read do you constantly refer to?

Behind The Cloud, written by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. Great ideas for any business about marketing and disrupting your space.

Favourite way to chill out?

I really enjoy horse racing and show jumping and love nothing better than a day at the races or at the RDS Horse Show!
