job adverts, also found that nearly 17% of these safety roles state an IOSH qualification as a must-have, resulting in a 9% increase in annual salary when compared to the salary of those with no qualifications. Richard Stockley, Managing Director at RRC International,
comments: “Our research shows the importance UK employers place on health and safety qualifications. With three in five health and safety job adverts currently requiring a NEBOSH accreditation, it is clear to see what applicants need to have to be in with a shot of getting a role. As well as tipping the scale in an applicant’s favour, quality health and safety qualifications also result in a much higher salary - nearly £5,000 more per year than those without them. It’s a win/win for the employer and the employee.” The time spent studying is well compensated, with diploma-
holders earning salaries that are 20% higher. This results in an average salary of £47,839, £8,000 more per year than those without.
