WELDING FIGURES IN BRITISH SKILLS GAP SURVEY

The Fohnsdorf Training Centre is located in Styria, Austria. To train welders, it uses a virtual welding system – the Virtual Welding simulator from Fronius. The simulator employs a virtual trainer to provide 1:1 training for the centre’s students, an approach that has a positive impact on training quality.

This was followed for welding by Wales 84.05 and the West Midlands 82.88%.
In terms of the welding industry the worst performing region was Scotland with -39.48% which was the worst figure of all jobs featured in UK.
The survey also ran job demand study which focused on London v UK. In this they took the 10 most in-demand job sectors, including welding, from the UK visa bureau ‘UK Shortage Occupations List’ . They then took both an overall UK average demand from online job sites, and a region specific average to create a ‘per person vacancy’ score. The final outcome unsurprisingly placed the financial sector top with +55.1% while welding was at the bottom with -21.09%. The survey showed that the North-West was just behind London for the most in-demand job industries. The survey also showed more demand for engineers and nurses in the North-West than any other region and that secondary teachers experiencing highest demand in the South-West. Across several different industries, research has found that the North-West of England is experiencing the highest demand for key jobs outside of the capital. Comparison service
SmallBusinessPrices.co.uk also showed that in terms of job vacancies, London ranks well above the national average, with 50% more jobs in finance and secondary teaching than the norm. But the North-West is a close contender for top spot as well as Investment in many cities see it rank highest in demand for engineers, nurses and social workers. Among the home nations Wales outranks Northern Ireland and Scotland in the research, with a high number of vacancies in dentistry, welding and the food industry.

Students on the welding training course at the Fohnsdorf Training Centre have access to five such “personal trainers”. However, these are not real people; they are all totally virtual. The Fohnsdorf Training Centre is one of the most modern and innovative professional training establishments in Austria. Situated in Murtal in Styria, it has been operating on behalf of the Employment Agency since 1975 to provide specialist staff for commerce and industry.
