WELDING FOR NATURAL GAS TRANSPORTATION GOES DIGITAL WITH SIRFULL
To optimise the quality management of its welding applications, GRTgaz, one of the European leaders in natural gas transportation (32,414km pipeline networks), has adopted a digital solution using the highest quality standards, and accessible both to the operational team members and to the engineers. To successfully complete this project
GRTgaz called the company SiRFULL, a fast-growing french cloud-based industrial digital solutions vendor and recognised for its SiRFULL | welding management solution dedicated to Original Equipment Manufacturers for processing industries. Counting hundreds of users in Europe (29 clients equipped), SiRFULL is known for its works on the digitalisation of the preventive maintenance for under pressure equipment as well which is nowadays used by Storengy.
LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION TO HARMONISE ALL THE GOOD WELDING METHODS Welding is a key element for companies involved in natural gas transportation. GRTgaz counts several welding workshops spread on French territory, as well as Integrity Unit, the main body for expertise in this sector. These workshops act each year on more than 300 construction sites and more than 250 welded mechanical structures on its workshops every year. The objective is to build an up-to- date, fixed and homogeneous welding
documentation system. GRTgaz is obliged to produce a clear documentation related to its welding activities, to have optimum conditions to be operational.
More than a simple static library, it’s a whole source of know-how and processes, ensuring the compliance with regulations and related to best practices. Thus, the implementation of the welding processes by the operational team members should be systematically compliant. GRTgaz wanted to harmonise all the good practices and to make them easily accessible thanks to the installation of a new unified software.
THE RECIPES FOR A HIGHLY CUSTOMISED AND COLLABORATIVE 4.0 WELDING SOLUTION GRTgaz selected the 4.0 solution SiRFULL | welding software. For one year, starting from 2016, a development programme in an agile development model was implemented. A common team, containing 10 persons of GRTgaz (8 welding experts and 2 from IT service) and SIRFULL specialists collaborated, taking into consideration all operator needs, performing end users test. Furthermore, this team has not only designed but as well adapted the different modules. “The solution developed by SIRFULL allows all those involved in welding activity in GRTGAZ to access at any time all or part of technical documentation and

from every point of the world,” said PHILIPPE IULIANO, Technical Direction of Interventions Unit, leader of the project.
A FIRST POSITIVE FEEDBACK: MORE TRACEABILITY & AUTONOMY FOR THE WELDERS
Since autumn 2017, the software and its different functionalities were progressively deployed ensuring acceptance of final users. More than fifty users, with different needs, started the use of the developed cloud platform. Immediately, GRTgaz had appreciated and determined the rich functionality and capacities of SIRFULL | welding management. “SiRFULL has considerably increased our traceability capacity. For example, we are able to find within just a few clicks an electrode or its old certificate, used on manufacturing and construction sites.
“The new solution allows the easier managing of welder qualifications records. SiRFULL | welding management allows us to optimise, consult the norms and standards at every moment without knowing the regulation by heart. Moreover, 6 workshops specialised in welding are going to be able to work with higher autonomy from the beginning of 2018 , added PHILIPPE IULIANO.
