Prostate radiation therapy

Dr Albert Edwards treats prostate cancer with image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) or LDR brachytherapy

Dr Edwards is a consultant clinical oncologist specialising in treating prostate cancer in London and Kent with advanced radiotherapy techniques or LDR brachytherapy, and inserts protective SpaceOAR Vue perirectal spacers. Selected patients are suitable for cura- tive

treatment with stereotactic

ablative radiotherapy (SABR) in five treatments using the pioneering MRIdian Linac machine at the London Cromwell Hospital. Tis combines live MRI images with precise delivery of radiotherapy, adapted each day to the prostate. Prostate seed LDR brachytherapy

treats localised prostate cancer by permanently implanting the

much as possible. SpaceOAR Vue is a biodegradable gel that’s injected to further separate the prostate from the rectum, reducing the maximum radiation dose received by the rectal wall in patients treated with brachytherapy or radiotherapy. Te gel is visible on the daily scans during IGRT and dissolves harmlessly six to 12 months later. Te above image shows an MRI scan on a patient who was treated with a prostate LDR brachytherapy implant and a SpaceOAR Vue hydrogel spacer. Dr

Edwards enjoys explaining

these complex treatments to his patients and guiding them through their cancer treatment journey.
