Catch skin cancer early Detecting changes in moles at an early stage improves outcomes

Te best time to treat a cancerous mole is when it’s just noticeable, but how do you know which moles are cancerous? And how good is your GP at identifying moles of concern? Skin is one specialty that historically gets overlooked by doctors while at medical school and in GP training. Dermatologists, who have at least

four years of specialist training in skin conditions beyond post grad- uate training and medical school, are best placed to identify skin cancers at an early stage. However, even the best dermatologists need help to identify changes in moles over time, which is where mole mapping excels. Mole mapping is a medical proce-

dure that involves creating a detailed map of a person’s whole skin to iden- tify and track any unusual moles or other skin lesions. Derma Reading’s total body mole mapping machine

features the

latest technology and enables its UK-trained consultant dermatolo- gists to create a detailed report that identifies any concerning moles. Unlike most mole mapping services, which just take photographs, at Derma Reading every mole on your skin will be reviewed by derma- tologists. Full body images will be taken, along with detailed images of any moles that the dermatolo- gist is concerned about. Te images of all moles are then catalogued and tracked over time, so that any changes in size, shape or colour can be easily detected. If potentially cancerous moles are the dermatologist will

identified,

inform you of treatment options. Tese can either be carried out at Derma Reading or you can take the report to your GP to get treatment on the NHS.
