GOLF B U SINESS

Staffan Scherz Managing Partner Passage to Asia

What do you do? We create inbound golf tours to the Indochina region, specifically Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and parts of Thailand.

What differentiates your company from your competitors? The knowledge of not only our destinations but also our source markets. We pride ourselves in actually knowing what our travellers want and adapt trips accordingly.

What does your company do better than anyone? Most of our clients are high-end golfers from Europe and they require an impeccable service from start to finish without knowing what’s going on behind the scenes. Furthermore we pride ourselves on a truly personalised service. That means at least once I personally meet up with the clients either at the airport or at their hotel to give them assurance and understand what they enjoyed or didn’t enjoy about the trip.

Where’s the best place to play golf? Da Nang is very much on the rise but it’s very crowded and we like to take our clients to Nha Trang which is a very up-and-coming destination. The new Cam Ranh Links Golf Resort in the area — built by Greg Norman — is absolutely beautiful and they pride themselves on it being the only true links-style golf course in Southeast Asia.

What makes the perfect golf holiday? When a company thoroughly understands its clients and everything runs smoothly.

What’s your top golf course? Luang Prabang Golf Club — still a hidden gem but both scenically stunning and challenging to play.

What do you love about golf? That you play against yourself and can always be better. It never gets boring as you can always improve.

What’s your favourite golfing memory? There are so many personal memories of daring shots that went exactly as I wanted them to — as opposed to the ones that went horribly wrong!

What will you be doing differently in 2018? We are now very strong in the German-speaking markets, and we will slowly try to expand our philosophy to other source markets.

What are you most excited about in the golf world in 2018? Vietnam is firmly on the golfing map of worldwide golf travellers and some of its places transform into stand-alone destinations (Da Nang, Nha Trang). This is very good news, especially as it generates much-needed return customers.

What is the one golf course in the world you’d love to play? Kauri Cliffs and Thracian Cliffs golf courses — they look stunning. passagetoasia.asia/golf

Jan Louzecky Board Member TeeTime

What do you do? We provide IT Golf services for 65,000 golfers, Czech and Slovak golf federations and 100 golf courses. Specifically, TeeTime SE operates the TeeTime Central Booking (teetime.eu) and Course Management System in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and handicap system for the Czech Golf Federation (cgf.cz), and Slovak Golf Association (skga.sk). Reservations, tickets and vouchers issued by the TeeTime system are accepted online for more than 100 golf courses. There’s also an integrated green fee distribution system designed for golf tour operators and, thanks to the centralised system, tour operators collaborate contractually with TeeTime SE, without having to enter into contracts with the individual golf resorts.

Luang Prabang Golf Course

What differentiates your company from your competitors? All three system we provide: Club (POS, Members, CRM, Back office, Online booking), Federation (all tournaments with scorehole results, players, clubs) and TeeTime Booking (50,000 registered players that book and buy) are all cloud-based systems with live support 12 hours a day, seven days a week.

What does your company do better than anyone? We actually own and provide the complete golf solution. It’s very easy to use all three of our systems that are linked together. If a new golfer is registered by a club and entered into the Federations system for a tournament, this information also flows in to the other system so that the Club solution can give proper pricing. Other courses also see it and give them proper pricing according to club agreements between each other.

Why do golfers need your company’s product? Easy booking, statistics from their tournaments, as well as training data and a course overview.

How passionate is your team about golf? Most of the team are golfers and we try and play together at least once a month. We also have competitions against each other — it’s important that our people enjoy and understand golf.

What will you be doing differently in 2018? We will be trying to reach other countries. We know the product is successful and can work so it makes sense that other countries could adopt it.

What are you most excited about in the golf world in 2018? The Ryder Cup — who isn’t?

Can you give us one prediction for the golfing year ahead? Golf will grown in popularity thanks to its Olympic status.

What’s the one golf course in the world you’d love to play? Mission Hills in China. It just looks incredible. teetime.cz
