CALLISTHENICS This ancient form of resistance training uses your own body weight to build strength, flexibility and endurance. Think push-ups, burpees and, for the adventurous, handstands. “It’s ideal for anyone looking to improve overall fitness without expensive equipment,” says personal trainer and callisthenics expert Chloe Thomas. “Its accessibility means it suits all levels and budgets.” It can be done indoors, outdoors, alone or in groups, and gyms such as Virgin Active and Gymbox now run dedicated classes.

HOT YOGA Hotpod Yoga’s sessions take place in warm, inflatable pods heated to 37C and filled with calming aromas, ambient music and soft lighting. Despite the cocoon-like feel, the heat elevates your heart rate and mimics

CHAIR PILATES Reformer Pilates may be the most popular form, but chair Pilates is quietly on the rise. This adapted style uses a chair to support seated, lying and standing moves that build strength, balance and coordination. In studios, instructors typically use a Wunda Chair — described as “a compact piece of equipment with a padded seat, springs and pedals” by Nuno Campos, head of fitness at Repose Space in London. Classes are available across the UK, with prices varying by location.

INFRARED PILATES Infrared Pilates is one of 2026’s hottest — quite literally — trends, pairing traditional mat work with infrared lighting. Unlike conventional heated studios, the lamps warm the body rather than the room, creating a sensation that’s

soothing rather than overwhelming. Fans say it aids muscle relaxation, boosts circulation and speeds recovery, though research is still emerging. Classes are popping up in independent studios in London, York, Manchester and beyond.

AQUA AEROBICS Long seen as old-fashioned, aqua aerobics is enjoying a resurgence. “Water fitness classes are shedding

From pain to possibility: a new approach to arthritis

Free arthritis consultation for

For decades, arthritis has been managed, but in the heart of the Midlands, that story might be beginning to change

At Achieve Health, a leading physiotherapy and regenerative medicine clinic in Birmingham and Solihull, a new chapter in joint care is being written — one that goes far beyond cortisone injections and symptom-masking strategies. Drawing on deep expertise in elite sport and cutting-edge rehabilitation science, the clinic’s approach is helping people to move better, live fuller and return to the things they love. Central to this modern model is

the use of hyaluronic acid (HA) — a naturally occurring substance in our joints that cushions movement, restores lubrication and supports joint health. For clients with painful, stiff or inflamed joints, restoring this essential fluid could significantly improve comfort and mobility, especially when combined with a treatment plan including physiotherapy. A newer formulation is also

available by injection. Combining hyaluronic acid with a fast-acting

anti-inflammatory, it can offer the best of both worlds. By reducing inflammation while enhancing joint lubrication, the compound provides a powerful dual-action solution. Unlike traditional steroid injections, studies have shown no damaging effects on joint surfaces — making it a more sustainable option for those wanting to delay surgical intervention or the cycle of flare-ups. The benefits? Not just pain relief,

but a real chance to move more freely, with less stiffness and greater confidence. And with the new year upon us, it’s a powerful ally for anyone looking to pursue fitness goals, reclaim their strength or simply keep up with life’s demands - on their terms. At Achieve Health, these advanced

interventions are integrated into a personalised, holistic treatment plan that includes biomechanical analysis, hands-on therapy, nutrition, supplementation and progressive rehabilitation. It’s a joined-up approach that treats more than just joints; it restores potential. For those living with arthritic pain or with chronic joint pain,

this may be the moment to take a different path — one that’s rooted in expertise, precision and a belief that movement is medicine.
