Autumn in the perfect time to start treating dark spots, and lasers offer some of the most effective in-clinic options. Words: Mattie Lacey-Davidson
sunspots and melasma for years), I know how stubborn it can be. Lasers are at the vanguard of clinical treatment options, but intensity and downtime can vary. Here are three to try.
A GETTY
1 PICOSURE PRO Named after its ability to deliver energy in picosecond pulses (trillionths of a second), the Picosure Pro laser shatters excess pigment in the skin using pressure rather than heat — making it a safe option for melasma and all skin tones. It can be tailored to you and also has the ability to rejuvenate the skin. As the laser passes over the face, you’ll feel a flicking sensation, which most can tolerate, but if your patch test proves too painful, then numbing cream can be applied. You’ll see results in one session but, as with any significant skin improvements, several sessions are needed for big results. Best clinic: Dr MediSpa.

2 BBL HERO + MOXI Technically two different treatments working on different depths in the skin, these are often performed together for advanced results. BBL (BroadBand Light) is an advanced form of the more traditional lasers with intense pulsed light (IPL). In simple terms, it uses light energy to clear unwanted pigmentation and signs of sun damage while also targeting redness and visible blood vessels. Moxi, however, is a gentle, non-ablative fractional laser that creates controlled damage, forcing the skin to renew — reducing pigmentation and signs of ageing. They work well alone, but together they’re a power couple for clearing dark spots while also rejuvenating skin. You’ll be numbed first, making the BBL pretty painless — the Moxi, however, heats the skin and can be quite intense (but bearable). For those with a deep skin tone (Fitzpatrick six), BBL won’t be suitable and specific skincare is usually required for Moxi to ensure safety. Best clinic: Dr Leah Clinics.
drleah.co.uk Downtime: Skin will be red and feel rough for up to five days.
3 ULTRACLEAR A unique ablative laser that uses a specific wavelength to create fractional heat injuries, UltraClear uses “cold fibre” technology to achieve results with less heat than other ablative fractional technology. It can be tailored at different
depths and intensities to reduce the downtime and risks, such as post- inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which can be triggered by heat. This allows it to be tailored to different skin tones and even contribute to the management of melasma, which is notoriously reactive to high temperatures. Your skin will feel hot afterwards, rather like sunburn, but you’ll be numbed for the actual treatment itself. Best clinic: Dr David Jack.
drdavidjack.com Downtime: Red and sore with visible marks that fade over a week. Expect peeling on days three to five.
SKIN TIGHT If you’re more concerned with
laxity than dark spots, these are the treatments to consider.
1. SOFWAVE A collagen remodelling treatment for a subtle, natural-looking lift across the eyebrows, mid-face and neck.
perfecteyesltd.com 2. HIFU A targeted treatment working deeper in the skin and tissue below for lifting and contouring.
harleystreetinjectables.com 3. XERF A new, comfortable, no- downtime treatment to lift and firm skin that works at different depths.

Discover Mosaik’s latest approach to considered eye care
The skin around the eyes has its own particular rhythm. Finer and more delicate than much of the face, it’s constantly moving with expression and is more susceptible to moisture loss. It’s little wonder that signs of dryness, fatigue and the passage of time can become visible here first — whatever the skin type or age. Japanese skincare has traditionally
approached such changes not as imperfections to be corrected, but as signals to be understood. The emphasis is on maintaining balance: gentle, consistent rituals that work with the skin rather than against it.
This philosophy lies at the heart
of Mosaik, a Japanese skincare brand founded on a simple premise: healthy skin isn’t something to be fixed, but something to be supported. Its latest formulation, FaceRx: EyeMask+, brings this thinking to one of the face’s most delicate areas. An essence-infused eye treatment,
EyeMask+ combines hydration, barrier care and visible radiance with ingredients selected to address the appearance of puffiness and expression lines. Rather than a conventional hydrogel, the patches are saturated with a lightweight, serum-like essence, ›allowing a concentrated moment of care to become part of an everyday ritual. The formulation brings together
Triple Hyaluronic Acid, niacinamide, peptides and astaxanthin, alongside Centella Asiatica and Japanese rice ferment. Three forms of hyaluronic acid help replenish moisture, while niacinamide supports the skin barrier and helps improve the appearance of uneven tone. Peptides contribute to a smoother, firmer-looking appearance. It also contains astaxanthin, derived from microalgae. There’s a wider philosophy
behind the choice of ingredients. Marine algae have evolved to live in
environments shaped by light, water, salt and constant change, developing natural protective mechanisms in the process. Their inclusion connects EyeMask+ to one of Mosaik’s recurring sources of inspiration: the relationship between nature, resilience and skin health. Japanese rice ferment adds
another layer, bringing an ingredient rooted in centuries of Japanese craftsmanship into a modern cosmetic formulation. Together, these elements reflect Mosaik’s approach to formulation, where contemporary skin science meets botanical knowledge and a respect for the natural function of the skin. Used for a few quiet minutes,
EyeMask+ provides concentrated hydration while helping the eye area appear fresher, brighter and more rested. But the ritual is about more than appearance. It creates a small pause in the day: a moment to step away, replenish and reconnect with the skin. For Mosaik, this is where beauty
and wellbeing meet. Not more. Not harsher. Simply more considered care — allowing the skin to adapt, restore and thrive. FaceRx: EyeMask+ is an essence-
infused Japanese eye treatment for hydration, visible radiance and a more rested-looking eye area.
