ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE Men’s prostate health

Prostate problems are common as men get older, but changes in urinary symptoms shouldn’t simply be dismissed

Some serious prostate conditions may cause no symptoms in early stages, while benign prostate enlargement (BPH) can cause a weak stream, diffi culty starting, frequent or urgent urination and getting up repeatedly at night. These conditions can coexist, making proper assessment important. A urological assessment may

include a discussion of symptoms and family history, examination, urine testing and PSA blood testing, with MRI and other investigations considered when appropriate. For men troubled by BPH, treatments range from lifestyle measures and

ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE Don’t neglect your feet

Saj Afzal at The London Clinic in Harley Street manages and treats a wide range of podiatry and spine conditions

Consultant podiatrist Saj Afzal has more than 36 years of experience and works with a multi-disciplinary medical team at the London Spine Clinic seeing a variety of patients and professional sportsmen and women. Using the latest techniques in gait and biomechanical assessment, Saj and his team look at EOS scans to assess painful foot conditions ranging from corns and bunions to toe deformities, including sport-induced foot and ankle injuries, right through to postural and gait analysis assessments. Saj also sees diabetic patients

whose feet can be at risk of ulceration and infection. Nail and skin infections are also treated at the clinic, which are very common conditions that Saj sees regularly, as well as pain associated with fl at pronated feet. EOS imaging is a low-dose,

weight-bearing X-ray technology. It can simultaneously take full-body, frontal and lateral (side view) images of the skeletal system of a patient in a standing or sitting position, using signifi cantly less radiation than traditional X-rays or CT scans.

Using EOS, two-dimensional

(2D) and three-dimensional (3D) orthopaedic images can be produced to assist specialists with the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions of the spine, hips and knees. Custom-made carbon fi bre foot

orthoses are often prescribed to help alleviate conditions, so walking and running and getting back into fi tness is aided.
