Glacier Express SWITZERLAND

The Glacier Express is one of the most unique and luxurious ways to explore the glory of the Swiss Alps. With the help of rack-and-pinion technolog, the train climbs to the highest point of the route on the Oberalp Pass, 6,706ft above sea level. From Zermatt and the Matterhorn, the trip leads through the Swiss Alps to St Moritz in the Engadine Lakeland. It winds its way past idyllic mountain villages and rugged rock faces, offering an unrestricted view of the deep gorges, remote valleys, glaciers and the Rhine Gorge, also known as the ‘Swiss Grand Canyon’. From Thusis, the Glacier Express climbs up the Albula Valley through helical tunnels and over viaducts towards St Moritz. Harmoniously embedded in the landscape, the line is a monument to the pioneering days of railway-building and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A trip through the Swiss Alps aboard the

Glacier Express is now even more spectacular. The new Excellence Class sets standards that are as high as the mountain peaks along the legendary route.

A rail journey through the Swiss Alps has

never been so luxurious. The 20 seats in the new Excellence Class offer an exclusive atmosphere. Passengers enjoy the highest level of comfort, the best views and culinary highlights. While enjoying the panoramic view from a guaranteed window seat, passengers travel across 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels on an eight-hour journey between St Moritz and Zermatt. The pleasure of travelling Excellence Class

starts as soon as guests step onto the platform. Here they’re greeted at the welcome desk in front of the Glacier Express by the concierge, who takes care of check-in and all their luggage. Along the way, the crew serves a regional

five-course meal, including wine. Appetisers and champagne taste twice as good looking out towards the Piz Bernina or the Matterhorn. For a welcoming drink or an aperitif, try the Glacier Bar, which offers the best view. Later in the day, an afternoon tea of delicious cakes is served. The Excellence Class are the most sought-after seats in Switzerland.

Don’t miss The elegant Glacier Bar — exclusively available to Excellence Class passengers, it’s the best place to enjoy an aperitif
