PARTNER CONTENT FOR TARANGIRE SAFARI LODGE

Tarangire Safari Lodge TANZANIA

Since 1985, Tarangire Safari Lodge has been owned and managed by the Simonson family, who pride themselves on adding a personal touch and offering friendly, attentive service. Ideally located, the lodge is around a two-hour drive from Arusha Airport and three-and-a-half hours from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Perched on the edge of an escarpment, Tarangire

Safari Lodge offers sweeping views across the baobab-peppered savannahs of Tarangire National Park, home to large herds of elephant, zebra and wildebeest. There are also occasional sightings of lions, leopards and cheetahs. The family-owned lodge is a short hop from

the main gate of Tarangire National Park. With a large verandah overlooking the Tarangire River, the property offers excellent game-viewing and birdwatching. Elephants and giraffes may be spotted drinking from the river banks, while hornbills, buffalo-weavers and starlings can be seen overhead. For those wanting to get even closer to the wildlife, there’s the choice of a bush walk or a guided day or night game drive in an open-top vehicle.

After a day’s exploring, guests can relax with

a massage or stretch out aching limbs with yoga in the fresh air at the Patulivu banda (traditional thatched hut), gazing at the river winding through the plains beyond. Alternatively, there’s the chance to swim in the outdoor pool, browse craft items handmade by local artisans in the Baobab Boutique or lounge in one of the comfy sofas, drink in hand. Sheltered by acacia and baobab trees, the

lodge’s quintessential safari tents are decked out with locally sourced textiles. Each comes with a private terrace — the perfect spot to enjoy the wildlife-dotted vistas — while the five spacious bungalows open onto a shady verandah near the water hole. Thick walls, a thatched roof and large windows help keep the space cool on warmer days. Come evening, guests can appreciate the view

with a sundowner on the terrace and, later, tuck into home-style cuisine at the open-air dining room. For special occasions, candlelit dinners under the stars can be arranged.

Don’t miss Soak up the views of Tarangire National Park before a night game drive in an open-top Land Rover
