In the heart of Nicosia, the AG Leventis Gallery stands as one of Cyprus’s most significant cultural landmarks, bringing the richness of European art to the eastern edge of the continent. Set close to the capital’s historic centre, the gallery creates a meeting point among cultures, movements and centuries, revealing how European artistic traditions have evolved and intersected across time and place. The gallery’s permanent collections span from


the 16th to the 20th centuries, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience the breadth of Western art without leaving the island. Highlights include Old Master paintings, Dutch still lifes, Rococo scenes and atmospheric Venetian cityscapes. The journey continues through Impressionism, before unfolding into Pointillism, Fauvism and the emergence of modern Greek and Cypriot art. Together, these works reflect not only


Europe’s artistic evolution, but also the vision of Anastasios G Leventis, the collector behind them. A businessman and philanthropist, he believed


deeply in public access to culture. His ambition to create a permanent home for his collections in Cyprus was realised in 2014 with the opening of the AG Leventis Gallery. The gallery comprises four distinct collections.


The Paris Collection features European masterpieces selected by Leventis, ranging from the Renaissance through to the Post- Impressionists. The Greek Collection traces the development of Greek art from independence through to the late 20th century, while the Cyprus Collection documents the island’s early modern artistic expression. The Gold Collection presents 605 coins and medals spanning from antiquity to the modern era. Beyond its permanent displays, the gallery has


evolved into a vibrant cultural hub. A year-round programme of temporary exhibitions, lectures, film screenings and educational workshops invites ongoing engagement from both residents and visitors. Located within walking distance of Nicosia’s old city walls, the gallery forms part of a wider cultural itinerary.
