Gerard “Jerry” Thiel Named to Institute’s Distinguished List


Gerard “Jerry” Thiel


Jerry Thiel recently retired as Director of the Metal Casting and Foundry 4.0 Centers at the University of Northern Iowa. He has a diverse industrial background and has held technical management positions in the metal casting industry for over 49 years. Jerry holds degrees in materials science, manufacturing and manufacturing process development and has published numerous research papers pertaining to molding and core materials for the foundry industry. He is a past chairman of the AFS Molding and Materials division, Additive Manufacturing division, Cast Metals Institute, and serves as a board member for the FEF.


Jerry


has received multiple awards from the Steel Founders' Society of America and the American Foundry Society for his service and technical contributions to the foundry industry. Jerry continues to serve the foundry industry through his work recruiting young people into the foundry industry and teaching metal casters about additive manufacturing and materials.
