Bristol offers a mile of markets and more


Visitors to Bristol can go Christmas shopping along the ‘mile of markets’, see Victorian recreations staged at major attractions, and try starlit open- air skating at the waterfront. The ‘Mile of Markets’


returns during November and December, connecting the city’s harbourside to Bristol Shopping Quarter. Bristol Shopping Quarter is home to more than 500 stores, 50 cafés and restaurants, and Cabot Circus that will host its Christmas lights switch-on event on November 9. Bristol-themed gifts can


be found at the Tourist Information Centre on the Harbourside, while Clifton Village offers vintage jewellery and ornaments. Brunel’s SS Great Britain will host a Victorian Christmas Weekend with costumed characters and onboard Christmas dinners and parties. The Victorian theme


continues at the National Trust’s Tyntesfield, a Gothic Revival house where traditional festive celebrations from the 19th century are recreated with A Very Victorian Christmas. We the Curious – formerly


the At-Bristol Science Centre – brings its Ice Rink and Winter Fair back to Millennium Square. Cadbury World has released details of its festive attractions, including Christmas weekends, a Santa show, and a pantomime called Jack and the Cocoa Beanstalk. The Bournville attraction hosts Christmas Celebration Weekends every Saturday and Sunday (November 17-December 16, plus December 21-23), with tickets for the Santa Show and panto. The Santa Show sees Father Christmas take to the stage, with the audience encouraged to sing along to Christmas classics. Children will be treated to a small Christmas gift from Santa’s elves. There’s a new chocolatey twist to the panto, which will continue after Christmas Day, with shows from December 27-30. The Cadbury Café will feature a Christmas menu, and visitors can explore the rest of the attraction, including the Chocolate Making


zone and Aztec Jungle. Furthermore, there’s the chance

Head to Thursford for festive West End-style spectacular


The annual Christmas ‘spectacular’ at Thursford in Norfolk attracts visitors from across the country (November 6-December 23). It has welcomed more than 5.4 million visitors over the past 41 years and it is thought to be the largest Christmas show in the country. The three-hour spectacular has


a cast of 130 professional singers, dancers and musicians, many of whom are West End performers. Coach operators from across the country offer trips to
