Q What is the history of Qdos Entertainment? A Qdos Entertainment was established 36 years ago by Nick Thomas and the company quickly gained the reputation of being the world’s biggest producer of pantomimes. We’ve produced and staged more than 700 pantos across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, bringing star names, fantastic production values and plenty of festive panto magic to millions of festive theatregoers each year.
Q How has the traditional panto evolved? A Panto itself hasn’t really changed; the traditional elements everyone expects are still there. What has changed more than anything is audience expectation. We work hard to ensure the traditional
elements meet the contemporary expectations of a modern audience, which is why we sign up star names, create amazing special effects and conceive modern song, dance and comedy routines that will appeal to all.
Michael Harrison, managing director of Qdos Entertainment, tells Samantha Mayling about the world’s biggest producer of pantomimes... oh yes he does
Q How many pantos did Qdos produce last Christmas, and how many for this year? A Last year we produced 35 pantomimes, as far north as Aberdeen and as far south as Plymouth, and seemingly everywhere in between, including our second pantomime staged at the London Palladium, Dick Whittington, which won the 2018 Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and Family. This year we are producing another 35,
and are back at the London Palladium with an all-new production of Snow White.
Q Why are Qdos pantos different? A Although there are many panto producers in the country, we have the most experience; we’ve grown the
company organically and along the way have developed working, collaborative relationships with the very best writers, directors, choreographers and artists. As a result we’re very lucky to have
a long roster of people who come back to work with us every single year, both on stage and off, which means our audiences get to see and experience the very best pantoland has to offer.
Q What is the appeal for group travel organisers? A We know how popular pantomimes are for groups, which is why we are very proactive in ensuring we offer the most generous rates for group travel organisers to allow their parties the best seats in the house at the best rate.
