Welcome
Welcome to Travel Weekly’s new Guide to Homeworking, a special issue bringing together some of the best-known brands in the homeworking world and offering helpful, practical
advice for anyone considering a change in direction for their travel career. Normally, when we bring out a new sales guide or supplement, it’s because a sector is experiencing a boom and we want to offer dedicated content to help you tap into demand. The context in which we publish this guide is altogether more sombre, with many agents and travel industry staff facing an uncertain future following the most damaging period our sector has ever seen. I have no doubt, sadly, that some people will be reading this guide after falling victim to redundancy or a company collapse. Others may have had their hours cut so severely that they’re forced to look for alternatives to help pay the bills. Yet while some parts of the travel
industry have undoubtedly shrunk, we have also seen dozens of homeworking
agencies – many of which are profiled in the following pages – experiencing an upturn. As we all adjust to a world of working from home, the idea of being based in a remote location, connected to colleagues via a screen, suddenly seems a lot less scary, and new technologies have opened up ways of offering personal, professional service without meeting customers face to face. Many homeworking agencies have seen a rise in enquiries from new or existing agents looking to make the move, and they’re understandably keen to bring all those years of experience and expertise into their networks to better serve their clients for the future. As we head towards 2021, the
industry is faced with the challenge of reviving customer confidence and experienced agents can play a crucial part in rebuilding that trust. Whether you’ve been a high street agent for years or simply long to set up your own business, we hope this guide will help you decide if homeworking is for you.
