travelweekly.co.uk @travelweekly travelweeklyuk @travelweeklyuk 29 OCTOBER 2020 25 Midcounties: Two legends
Story: Paul Dale & Louise Renyard to leave Midcounties Co-operative Ashley John Dellow: Two absolute legends, total professionals and genuinely dedicated to their roles. Good luck with your next chapters. Carly Charteris: Wishing you both the best for the future. This truly is the toughest of times.
Barrhead: NHS is needs must Story: Barrhead Travel staff hired as NHS contact tracers This is nice, but I cannot help thinking these NHS roles are not what sets the staff of a travel agency on fire; they are such different career environments. Good luck to them, though, and happy they have jobs. Nicola Elding
Does anyone have a coherent scientific explanation for why transit passengers going through non-corridor countries still need to quarantine for 14 days (and technically breach FCDO advice)? This will needlessly hamper the recovery of long haul travel.
The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Outlook: Are things looking up?
Story: Boots introduces Covid testing for travel With the opening up of the Canary Islands just in time for the winter season, and now with this Boots 12-minute Covid test, plus good stories about a vaccine before Christmas, are we seeing little green shoots of recovery in the travel world? We hope and pray that’s the case. Patrick Doyle
Newell’s: Hats off to TTNG
Story: Newell’s Travel to move from Abta to the Travel Trust Association Well done, Gary and team. The Travel Network Group not letting the grass grow under their feet as they seek and deliver solutions to assist and develop new and existing members while building on the scale of the group as they go. Carpe diem. Kenny Picken, founder, Traveltek
Gemma Antrobus @Luxury TravelGem Haslemere Travel Whoever said there was no appetite for travel has not worked in a travel agency the day after the Maldives and the Canary Islands were granted travel corridors! For post-Covid times, it’s been rather hectic!
Travel With Jules @Julestravel Well said @jlo_said: “Travel agents’ businesses have fallen 80%-90% compared to 10%- 20% for pubs & restaurants.” Will @grantshapps and @FCDOtravel GovUK ever listen and throw us a lifeline by lifting blanket travel ban?
