The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Shops: Excellent to reopen

Story: Non-essential retail shops allowed to open from June 15

Excellent. As long as we are safe, look after our colleagues’ and customers’ safety, then this is good news. We’re paying some colleagues to work from home, so they’d be able to work in a store to support customers that want to see us face to face, and we can keep some colleagues furloughed until bookings and cashflow recover. David McDonald

Stores: Who’ll book?

Story: Non-essential retail shops allowed to open from June 15 That’s all well and good, but until demand for travel returns we’ve got employee costs without any bookings coming in. How are businesses like travel agencies expected to open/pay staff etc without any revenue coming in? Stuart Newman

Harold Burke Grand UK Holidays @haroldburke2005 [The collapse of Shearings] is devasting for our industry and nothing short of heartbreaking. The impact can only damage our recovery and leave a huge hole that will have long-term effects. The industry as a whole really needed Shearings to survive. This is a dark dark day.

Quarantine: It’s way too late

Story: Advantage demands government consultation on 14-day quarantine They should have implemented it in March, then maybe the UK wouldn’t have been so hard hit and countries like Greece and Cyprus wouldn’t feel it necessary to exclude the UK from their reopening plans. And if we have to have this, why wait another two weeks before it starts? Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted, if you ask me. Sarah Hesketh
