While many of Canada’s most popular holiday destinations are on the mainland, sometimes the best things come in smaller packages. BEST FOR . . . SELF-DRIVE Where: Cape Breton Island Why: Atlantic Canada is a dream for those who love to drive, and the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia is a true highlight. Put the pedal to the metal on this 186-mile loop and you’ll discover some really special places. The town of Baddeck is a great spot to start. Once the home of telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell, there’s a museum dedicated to his life which is worth a visit before hitting the road.
