Travel Weekly channels the glamour of the Globes with uplifting online Rewards event
M
ore than 40 prizes worth tens of thousands of pounds were won by members
of the travel trade in a special virtual Globe Travel Rewards event hosted by Travel Weekly. The event on Thursday evening
marked the traditional date of the Globe Travel Awards, which take place in front of more than 1,200 guests at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel each January. More than 20 supporters of the
2020 Globe Awards took part in the Rewards event, which was viewed more than 10,000 times within four days and generated more than 1,500 comments on the night on Facebook and other social media channels.
In addition to the prize
giveaways, the night of celebration also featured messages for the trade from well-known faces, with support from television presenter Eamonn Holmes, singer and presenter Aled Jones, singers Duncan James and Chico, Coronation Street actor Andy Whyment and author and documentary maker Simon Reeve. The event also included tributes
to those the industry has lost in the past 12 months, and a focus on the TravelCares charity appeal, founded byTravel Weekly and Abta LifeLine in 2020, which has so far raised more than £21,000 for those in the trade facing particular hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lucy Huxley, editor-in-chief
of Travel Weekly Group, said: “The industry continues to face incredible challenges, and the Globe Travel Rewards was a chance to bring some light to a dark period and remind us all of the wonderful partnerships that underpin it. “Throughout the pandemic,
frontline travel agents and operators have worked tirelessly to support their customers, colleagues and
partners, and the response of the 22 supporters of the event was testament to their desire to recognise those efforts. Thank you to everyone who took part, and everyone who joined us to celebrate our incredible industry.” Managing director Stuart
Eamonn Holmes
Parish, who co-hosted the event, added: “As the only trade media title continuing to publish weekly, and with all our digital content made freely available as broadly as possible to support the industry, we felt we shouldn’t let the traditional date of the biggest event in the calendar go unmarked. “We hope the Globe Travel
Rewards gave the industry a much- needed lift in these difficult times, and we look forward to bringing the Globe Travel Awards back in even more spectacular fashion in 2022.”
