Mr Oliver Broad @traveloliver RB Collection Can we please just wait for 12 April for official word from #GlobalTravelTaskforce on summer hols. I know safety and science is important, but speculation and media frenzies are even more damaging to an industry already on its knees.
Tui: Staff recall is relief
Story: Tui recalls 800 furloughed staff to closed shops
Sophie Rumbagator Pearson: This gave me goosebumps for some reason. It’s probably a relief for many in the industry – good luck to those returning.

The best of your letters, comments and social media this week May 17: Risk must be balanced
Story: May 17 restart remains ‘perfectly possible’, say industry leaders Clive [Wratten, chief executive of the Business Travel Association] is right about the risks posed by the government’s search for a “zero-risk strategy”. We have to be honest that Covid is here for ever, so we’ll always have variant strains arising. If the goal is to stop variants arriving in the UK, that can only equate to an effectively closed border, possibly for good. If the government can, I hope, see that that is not a viable outcome, then it has to balance risk with reward and not pursue this obsession with ‘beating’ the virus or keeping out all variants. Danny Callaghan, Latin American Travel Association
Deben Travel @DebenTravel Defence secretary @BWallaceMP commenting on overseas travel ahead of Travel Taskforce finding – that really does say it all. Why do we bother..?
UK: Dates should align
Story: Jet2 reports surge in summer holiday booking confidence There is just the matter of the travel restart date across the UK. If the restart date is not aligned across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and England flies solo, then we will witness the crazy situation where the Welsh will travel to Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester to go on holiday, and the Scots will travel to Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester to get away. Surely that is unsustainable? Speakthetruth
Steve Dunne @SteveDunne Digital Drums My wife to me this morning: “Who’s this lady on TV? She seems really trustworthy. I’d buy a holiday from her.” @HaysTravel
McAuley: Good luck, Lisa
