Intrepid’s new Premium tours will ‘benefit local communities’

Phil Davies

A new range of ‘premium’ tours is being introduced by sustainability-focused operator Intrepid Travel. The tours feature handpicked accommodation,

private transportation, train journeys and exclusive experiences. More than 70 trips are available for departures

starting in January 2022, with Intrepid saying its Premium range offers travellers a more sustainable choice for ‘high-end adventures’. The programme covers more than 40 countries.

Each itinerary includes a stay and signature experience not available on any other Intrepid trip. Experiences include a sand dune dinner under

the stars in Pushkar, India, and a community stay in Peru that includes a visit with the Ese’Eja people, an indigenous community considered the stewards of the Peruvian rainforest. Feature stays may include the Orient Star, a former

madrasa in Khiva, Uzbekistan; Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge, an eco-friendly jungle hideaway with

views over Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest; and Splendid Cave Hotel, where guests can see hot-air balloons rising over Cappadocia in Turkey. Some tours will visit social enterprise projects

working to promote gender equality, animal welfare, environmental sustainability and economic empowerment. The company’s chief executive, James Thornton,

said: “With our aim to become a world leader in sustainable, experience-rich travel, we identified that many of our customers were seeking a higher-end product with purpose. “As we continue to prepare for a gradual and

sustainable recovery, we saw Premium as an opportunity to build a new style of tour that ensures local communities benefit from high-value tourism. “We wanted to show a premium product can also

deliver on a premium purpose.” A 15-day Premium Morocco In Depth costs from £2,480; a nine-day Premium Peru from £2,510; and a 13-day Premium Vietnam and Cambodia from £2,625. intrepidtravel.com/premium
