Brochures: Many people still like to browse something physical

Comment: Who needs brochures? As a digital marketer, I often struggle with this question. But paper still has a huge influence: physical book sales are on the rise, people still buy newspapers, Next still drops doorstop-sized catalogues through the door and many people like to browse something physical. There is probably still work to be done to ensure brochures get into the hands of the right people through targeted marketing, clever use of data and CRM, but I don’t see their demise anytime soon. And a £20 cost of sale for paper probably roughly equates to an online figure anyway. Paul Bondsfield

Heathrow: UK needs to stop dithering and build third runway
Story: Transport secretary: ‘Heathrow third runway may not stack up financially’ We have to stop dithering! This country is about to wrench itself out of the EU and look to cast its trading nets farther afield. At the same time, this nation is held back by inadequate aviation infrastructure, with just one new full-length runway constructed since the war. While our new Brexiteer transport minister openly ponders reconsidering Heathrow’s long overdue expansion, Amsterdam continues to provocatively pride itself on being ‘Heathrow’s third runway’. Comment: Can Norwegian Air fly on? I want Norwegian to succeed because it has shaken up the market. If you enjoy free Wi-fi, and being able to take a bag on the plane larger than a pencil case, Norwegian offers that. In his article, Ian Taylor says he struggles to see how the carrier will make its Latin America routes work, but that is where it should be focusing. Latin America has been underserved for decades and this lack of competition keeps prices high. If its lead-in price is £480 return then there should be margin too. We can either not book Norwegian and potentially watch it become a self-fulfilling prophecy, or we give it our support and keep the competition. Martin Johnson, director, Latin Routes
