APT appoints John Torode as Kimberley ambassador

Celebrity chef John Torode has become APT’s ambassador for the Kimberley region of Western Australia – dubbed ‘Australia’s final frontier’. Te operator is also working


with Tourism Western Australia to promote the tropical region and will unveil a brochure for the Kimberley on August 30. Ahead of the announcement


of his two-year ambassadorial role, the MasterChef presenter visited the Kimberley, taking an expedition cruise to Montgomery Reef and a land tour to see the Bungle Bungle range in Purnululu Park and El Questro. He said: “Te Kimberley was a


region I was aware of but I hadn’t considered it as a holiday destination. “It’s so surprisingly,


extraordinarily massive and it’s completely untouched. England would fit into it three times, but there’s only a population of 40,000 people. It’s just absolutely beautiful.” Paul Melinis, APT’s UK and

Welch to end Disney love affair


on February 14 aer 28 years Disney Destinations International veteran Peter Welch is to retire next year. Welch, Disneyland Paris’s marketing and sales vice-president for the UK and Ireland, confirmed he will leave on February 14, 2020, after 28 years with the company. He plans to focus on a hotel interest in Sri Lanka and a business opportunity in Spain. Disney said its search for a successor was under way.

Cameron jumps ship from


P&O to join Princess Cruises Karen Cameron is to join Princess Cruises as territory business manager for Scotland next week, leaving her role as regional sales and engagement manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland at P&O Cruises. Cameron will be responsible for growing and managing relationships and Princess’s ship visit programme with agents in Scotland.


Ireland’s Tour America names


Maher as chief operating officer Tour America has promoted its finance manager to the new role of chief operating officer. Deirdre Maher, who will take up her new position on November 1, has been with the Dublin-based operator for nearly 15 years. Maher will also have responsibility for Tour America sister brand Cruise Holidays. Founder and managing director Mary McKenna said she wanted “a second in command”.
