Butlin’s invests £10m in new and refreshed accommodation
Butlin’s has spent £10 million on developing its accommodation across its three resorts for 2018. The Minehead resort will add
seven Seaside Lodges from Easter, taking the total up to 18, while 237 Fairground and Seaside apartments have been created at its Skegness resort and 72 Seaside apartments have been added at its Bognor Regis property. The Seaside Lodges will form a ‘village’ close to the Plantation Quay area in the resort. All are seaside-themed and have three bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, bathroom, private parking space and outdoor space. Silver apartments at all resorts will be redecorated and refurbished

with new sofas, bedding, flooring and bathrooms, and will be ready from December 2017. The Fairground apartments are
available from £65 per person, based on two adults and two children sharing accommodation in Skegness. Seaside apartments are from £80 at Bognor Regis, while Seaside Lodges at Minehead
cost from £75.

Arena Rail Holidays is looking for “agent champions” to claw back lost trade business since the failure of Diamond Rail parent Diamond Holidays.
Arena Travel bought the Diamond Rail and The River Cruise Line brands in March this year following the collapse of Diamond Holidays. It rebranded Diamond Rail to Arena Rail Holidays and has recruited 20 of Diamond’s orignal staff of more than 50. Managing director Steve Goodenough said Arena Rail, which launched its 2018 brochure
last month, was aiming to increase awareness of its rebrand with the trade, which previously accounted for about 25% of sales for Diamond Rail. Goodenough is hoping that
by partnering with agents, the proportion of trade sales can be restored or even increased. Agent “champions” would
be given extra support in terms of training and fam trip opportunities. He said: “The uptake we
have had from agents since the brochure launch hasn’t been what we expected, possibly because agents don’t recognise the brand. “We would like to focus on a key number of smaller independent
