Reuben’s Retreat @reubensretreat We are thinking of everyone this Mother’s Day. Those celebrating with loved ones, those remembering, those who may find today a little hard to navigate, and those who hold a child in their heart and an angel that they know by name.
The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Support: Ministers, look at the figures
Story: EasyJet chief slams government for failure to support travel Speaking on behalf of the 200-plus tour operators and specialist travel agencies within Aito, The Specialist Travel Association, we couldn’t agree more with Mr Lundgren. There is a huge mismatch between what the government knows via its own ONS figures – that travel is the worst-affected sector – and its total lack of sector-specific support for us all. Contrast that with the German government’s support for Tui, to the tune of €4 billion. Ministers, we’ve waited long enough. Please, albeit horribly late in the day, give us the support that we desperately need after 13 months of negative cashflow. Sue Ockwell
Victoria Costello @Victoria21_atTC Travel Counsellors Always love to hear what @vernonkay has to say at our Travel Counsellor events! Cannot wait to be able to get together in person #imissyouall #tcinspire21
Gemma Antrobus @LuxuryTravelGem Haslemere Travel After the first week back at school and 3 negative tests taken there, we’ve had kits sent home for testing twice per week. So simple and quick! Surely this has to be the way forward for travel? Would make so much sense.
May 17: I’m loath to book
Story: ‘It’s OK to book’ for May 17 onwards Helen Dooley: I am very reluctant to book anything until I know more. There are fees associated with making a booking that we can’t retrieve, plus all the pressure of getting refunds in a timely manner from operators.

Story: Abta welcomes £10,000 Covid support for Northern Ireland agents Neil Basnett: It is a start. I am sending an email today to my own MP, Nadhim Zahawi, to state that if we are a ‘United Kingdom’, then such a scheme should apply to us agents in England as well!
Turkey: Open-door
policy is a Covid risk Story: Turkey to open up to Brits without need for vaccine certificates I’m not sure this is good news. Turkey needs to really have a look at who is coming into the country and consider the risk of further cases of Covid-19. I hope the UK government puts Turkey on the ‘red’ list until they only allow people who have had the vaccination or, at the very least, a negative test. David Pascoe
