It is not illegal to book a holiday, @grantshapps, it is illegal to travel right now – a huge difference! People can plan ahead, especially with stress-free booking policies.
The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Campaign: Drive divides opinion
Story: More than 100 travel firms ‘united in outrage’ launch Save Our Summer There’s a touch of King Canute about this: railing against something over which they have no control. Asking for travel to start in May is as meaningless as asking for a longer period of warm weather this year. The disease will dictate terms. Sir Tim Clark [Emirates president] is at least being realistic. Paul Bondsfield
We hold our breath as regards the prime minister’s roadmap and travel. If the vaccine rollout goes successfully and countries are happy to accept visitors deemed safe, all to the good. The mental health of the nation is at stake here too. People must be given some kind of hope, and what better than a holiday to look forward? This would help a very stricken travel industry. Patrick Doyle
Agents: Inspired
I just wanted to say how inspired I was to hear the comments of David Walker, Lee Harrison and Sue Welsh on a recent Travel Weekly webcast. It was interesting to see how some of the smaller agents are dealing with the current situation. I was particularly impressed with David and some of the things he has been doing, tied in with his approach and outlook. I hope other agents pick up on some of his ideas. We have had a good number of bookings, some with a very high spend, for later this year and more so in 2022, which shows the demand is there. David Holland, director, African Pride
Oliver Broad @traveloliver RB Collection Please, sir, can we have some hope?
SOS: Too many ‘bodies’
Story: More than 100 travel firms ‘united in outrage’ launch Save Our Summer Graeme Brett: Not another organisation with yet another message to government from the industry. We have far too many travel ‘bodies’ with their own agendas and messages.

Gemma Antrobus @LuxuryTravelGem Haslemere Travel Client rang to tell me that I must contact easyJet and tell them NOT to cancel her flight to the Canary Islands in late April. She WILL be going and she will NOT be told what she can and can’t do with her life...
Gatwick: Fee is no surprise
Story: Gatwick drop-off fee will help ‘protect jobs’ Lee Greaves: Why does this surprise folk? Most UK airports have been doing it for years, even before the worst crisis to hit the travel industry in decades. You can still get dropped off for free in the long-stay car park and simply take the bus in.
