New York banks on trio of attractions to tempt family visitors
New York is hoping the opening of three attractions around Times Square will offer a timely boost for family bookings. The city’s tourism body NYC & Company is forecasting a 6.6% fall in UK visitor numbers in 2017. Despite the forecast and ongoing concerns over the perception of the US as a welcoming destination, tourism chiefs hope a raft of openings will prompt more families to visit. California: Highway 1 ‘open for business’ after landslide
California tourism chiefs have reassured the trade that the iconic Highway 1 is “open for business” after damage to a bridge and a landslide caused by heavy rains led to part of the Pacific route to be closed. While part of the road in the Big Sur region will remain closed until at least September, Visit California said a diversion using the inland Highway 101 meant it was still a viable fly-drive and touring route for visitors.

Florida: 30-minute rail to link Miami-Fort Lauderdale
A high-speed rail service will connect downtown Miami to Fort Lauderdale in 30 minutes
and Palm Beach in an hour from September. The second stage of the Brightline rail link will connect Palm Beach to Orlando, with a target date of 2019.

Vermont: Tourism chief taps sustainable travel demand
Vermont’s new tourism commissioner plans to tap in to a growing interest in sustainable travel, after the state’s governor said he would be signing up to the US Climate Alliance. The alliance is a coalition of US states that have pledged to uphold the Paris climate agreement despite president Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the US from the international pact.
