14 June 2018 travelweekly.co.uk 3 19 04 A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Embrace star of the industry T

his week, Ed Sheeran and K-Pop superstar Psy feature in our top five stories.

Showbiz mentions aren’t all that common for a business-to-business travel magazine, and they crop up for very different reasons. First, we have Sheeran, who gave his backing to the

Together Forever campaign in memory of Westoe Travel apprentice Chloe Rutherford and her boyfriend Liam Curry who were killed a year ago in the Manchester Arena terror attack (page 5). Meanwhile, Psy’s hit Gangnam Style was the undoing of a man trying to dupe Jet2holidays into paying compensation over a false sickness claim, when he was captured dancing to the song when he claimed to be ill (page 6). Such celebrity associations meant both stories understandably hit the headlines – and shone a spotlight on two different but important causes in the fundraising campaign and the ongoing quest to ‘Fight Fake Claims’. Beyond the celebrity spotlight, this week we focus on

a real growth area of the travel industry with our Touring Special Edition. This issue is particularly timely, as the Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers (Atas) gears up for its first Southern Showcase event, to be held at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge ground next week. And this event – following on from the incredible

success of the inaugural Atas Conference in Birmingham last October – is just one example of a sector that is not only on a real upward curve but is putting travel agents at the very heart of its future success. I hope you are inspired to learn more and embrace one of the travel industry’s own undoubted stars.
