Flybe needs new strategy – not paint
Comment: Flybe – a good deal? The real issue for Flybe is an immediate need to change strategy. The airline was losing money hand over fist, and renaming and repainting won’t change things one bit. Twice in the last week it has offered ‘thousands of flights’ for £25 each way – with APD at £13, that means a net income of £12 a seat. Frankly, that looks like desperation. At both Heathrow and Manchester, it operates from a different terminal to Virgin, so the synergies are hard to see. I wish the staff the best of luck, but so far it looks like a business that is moving the deckchairs while ignoring the approaching iceberg. Do referral agents comply with all rules?
Story: Call for protection bench- mark amid ‘referral agent’ row It’s not just about financial security for customers, although that is the key issue that will come back to bite the industry. What about compliance with the PTRs and GDPR? I’ll bet most of these non-bonded, untrained newcomers have never even heard of these regulations, let alone comply with them. Companies providing insurance and bonding for operators should refuse cover for operators who accept this highly risky business.

Corfu’s rubbish problem is likely to pile up again
Story: Corfu rubbish problem ‘resolved’ (July 2, 2018) This issue only seems to have quietened down due to it being winter. Nothing’s been resolved and 2019 is set to be a nightmare as the tourist season starts. [The rubbish problem] will damage Corfu’s reputation for years to come – and all because of greedy politicians.
