Land of contrasts
ith a stunning coastline, remarkable mountains and thriving cultural traditions, Miyagi in Japan perfectly blends both city and countryside to provide the ideal year-round destination.
The prefecture celebrates all seasons. And now, with the launch of the English website,
visitmiyagi.com, there’s so much to learn about this region to pass on to customers who are looking for the ultimate Japanese holiday off the beaten track.
Located on the east coast of Japan’s biggest island, Honshu, Miyagi boasts impressive coastline views as well as some enviable mountain landscapes, and a lot more besides.
The prefecture is home to Sendai, one of the largest cities north of Tokyo. The city is famous for its
Tanabata Festivals (or ‘Star Festivals’) every year from August 6-8. Be sure to recommend your customers coincide their visit with this spectacle to witness the thousands of brightly coloured streamers decorating the shopping arcades of Sendai, while other live music events, entertainment and fireworks take place across the city.
Just 40 minutes north of Sendai lies Matsushima Bay, commonly considered to be one of Japan’s most scenic viewpoints. Comprising 260 islands, it’s the perfect place to set off on a sightseeing cruise or take in the views from the shore.
Miyagi prefecture is the gateway to the north of Japan and the island of Hokkaido. With the main transport links from Tokyo and the south passing through the prefecture, it’s a perfect stopover for those venturing further north.
