Reward schemes not rocket science
Story: Airline loyalty schemes branded ‘a waste of money’ It’s hardly rocket science is it? I figured out that BA Avios was a waste of space when they slashed the rewards about four years ago. Prior to that, I was getting roughly enough points from each transatlantic flight to cover an economy return flight within Europe. After the change, the points from an 11,000-mile return flight costing over £900 could be bought using £10 worth of Tesco Clubcard points. Having said that, I did do well with Virgin Atlantic last year. Using a combination of flown mileage, a generous compensation points credit and Tesco Clubcard vouchers, I flew to Las Vegas in Premium Economy for £345 return. The bottom line is, what we get now is nothing like the rewards available a decade or so ago. I was an [American Airlines] AAdvantage Platinum member in the early 2000s and that pretty much equated to one free economy return to the USA or the Caribbean for every two or three flown. DAVEGGW
BA should embrace change enthusiastically
Story: BA faces ‘unprecedented’ joint pay claim The request for an employee share ownership scheme is a positive move. It shows how trade unions have moved on from their once confrontational stance towards staff share ownership. BA should embrace such a change enthusiastically. It will bring improved customer focus, more job satisfaction and better productivity.

Story: Row erupts as Gatwick claims local backing for expansion There are 205 people who ‘like’ the Communities Against Gatwick Noise and Emissions Facebook page, whereas the group supporting GrowingGatwick has 3,744 likes. I feel this reflects the local community far better. And I live by the airport in Crawley.
JEREMY TAYLOR Thomas Cook should take a look in mirror
Story: More than a fifth of the value of Thomas Cook wiped off Possibly time for Cook to stop blaming external issues such as the hot summer – which On the Beach and everyone other travel company also had to contend with, but seemed to manage without losing 20% of their value. Get the mirror out Thomas Cook and peer deep.
